Haute Hosiery

In keeping with two resolutions (1. alter more, 2. save money) I have been thinking of ways to reinvent my wardrobe on a dime. I've come to an important conclusion so long as it's Winter and Spring: hosiery. Since this is the time of year when socks can be worn full frontal and tights and leggings are a staple, it only makes sense to buy a pair of these beauties rather than a whole new wardrobe. If your pair is too boring, consider altering to keep up with current trends. I've posted pictures of some of my favorites.
I recommend pairing colors and prints with other solids that are complementary. Subtle patterns such as lace are perfectly elegant for an evening out or a job interview. But remember to leave the fishnets and tie dye for the club scene or a party. Consider tights with shorts to be extra trendy. For socks, look for longer lengths to peek out of a boot or wear with heels. For subtle altering embellish just the ends to draw attention to your glam gams.

And wouldn't you know it, there's an Altered Couture challenge to supply further motivation (http://www.stampington.com/html/wanna_get_published.html#altered). Deadline is 6/15/10. What will you come up with?
I went out this weekend and bought 3 pairs of tights and one pair of trosuer socks for a grand total of $13. I plan on keeping one pair of tights "normal" and sprucing up the other items. Stay tuned, as I promise I will be showing the finished project here.
