Do the Right Thing

I wasn't planning on blogging today, but sometimes the words just come. I have found there to be a lot of meanness in the air of late, and so I wanted to inject some positivity.

There are times when we all come to a crossroads in life. We all (hopefully) want to do the right thing. We want to choose the right path, go down the right road, say just the right words. And when we look back at the path we have wandered down, we want to know/hope to find out that we chose correctly.

I have been wondering of late if I have taken the right steps. I feel like I don't know quite yet where I will end up. I wonder if I should have packed my bags long ago and moved to the East Coast; if I should have quit while I was ahead; if I should have talked more to a colleague who looked like they needed cheering up; or stood up for myself a bit more.

But then it hit me. Sometimes doing the right thing means breaking a rule, or even breaking a cycle, and sometimes it means taking on extra work. Sometimes doing the right thing means not being liked by the masses. But that's OK, because I was blessed with many a pair of high heeled shoes to stand tall and proud in; to stand up for what I believe in. I was blessed with the need and ability to write things out in an articulate fashion; and the pen will always be mightier than the sword. But most importantly, I believe that sometimes it's not about doing the right thing, but it's about having faith that the right thing will be done.

Those who make the lives of others harder on purpose, who look the other way when wrong doing is done, or don't do anything at all will always have another chance to right their ways. And I want to believe that people can learn, grow, and always do better. Instead of looking back and thinking of all the right turns/wrong turns, it is best to think about the opportunities today presents itself with, the choices right in front of me, and relying on faith to steer me in the correct direction.

Let's all commit to doing the right thing today, tomorrow, and always ... because we all know when we're not.

"I’m feeling very much over-excited now, and a little dramatic, but I think I’d give almost anything on earth to see you writing a something, an anything, a poem, a tree, that was really and truly after your own heart.” - J.D. Salinger

  2. Beautifully written! Are you reading my mind? Except you have the talented writing skills to put it all out there! I have been thinking along these lines so much lately as well. Living a true and honest life with integrity is what I do. Be good to others and put out there what you want back... and all that!

Hope to see you at GF this Saturday.

    Take care,
    Holly

  4. Hello my friend,

What a wonderful post Beth. I stay away from people with a negative outlook on life and run like crazy from those who are mean and judgmental. I want only positive and strong people around me...they help me to be the better person I strive to be.

I am finally in a creative place and surrounded by equally creative people and having the time of my life...at 58!

Life is very good and I have you to thank for much of my improved self-esteem.

    Thank you Beth

  5. You do have a gift with words Beth. I just know that someone with this gift has a great and strong heart as well. Those of us that bear the weight of difficult decisions and heavy loads are the same ones HE TRUSTED to carry that weight...and I for one, am frankly quite happy to carry that load for HIM! Keep smiling...you are so worth it!
    Regards,
    Rae
