Big news in the world of fashion and bridal as http://www.shopbop.com/ has FINALLY opened their wedding boutique! Check it out, as they have great categories including: shoes, second dresses, bridesmaid, and of course bridal wear. They have excellent range and diversity too. Above are some of my favorites. I guess I have a thing for ruffles ???? The greatest things about these fashions is they are versatile and on trend. So even if you are not getting married, these looks can definitely inspire fabulous, romantic style. Enjoy : )

Card Couture

I received these cards recently from artist Karen Lampard as a gift. Love the details and sketching on these. They hail from http://www.cafepaperie.etsy.com/. The dresses all have different titles and quotes on the front. Among them, two statements that I couldn't agree with more from the one and only Coco Chanel:
" Elegance comes from being as beautiful inside as outside."
&
"To my mind, simplicity is the keynote of all true essence."
Happy Friday! Stay Elegant : )

House of Anne, Annie & Annette

Now normally I would never consider driving to Los Angeles a treat, but yesterday I had no idea what I was in for. I left my home at 6:45 in the morning and arrived in Santa Monica at 9:20 (grrr!). But I never would have imagined such traffic and solitary confinement to be worth my while as when I stepped into the Tatum Workroom and was absolutely inspired. The workroom is the creative space of the one and only Annette Tatum (http://www.annettetatum.com/) who is FABULOUS. Her book, The Well-Dressed Home, is a must have for people who love fashion and decor.
Because of my involvement with Somerset Home, I was honored to take part in a painting workshop hosted by House of Anne (www.houseofanne-anne.blogspot.com). Anne is the kindest woman ever! She made all of us feel so at home, and kept the mood so light. And the delicious lunch was catered by www.reverencefoods.com, consisting of pasta, brownies, fruit, and soup.
My friend Debi was there as well (www.debisdesigndiary.blogspot.com). Always good to catch up with Debi over paints. And paint we did, using the amazing paint from THE Annie Sloan (www.anniesloan.com). I am in absolute awe of Annie. Not being a painter msyelf, I was very impressed with her techniques, and how easy and versatile they were. I might have to start painting furniture .... Oh and speaking of, Annie's new book, Quick & Easy Paint Transformations is about just that. Definitely check it out! I used Annie's paints and waxes to make new items look older and antique. I love the dark wax effect on wood. Also pictured is a crackle paint technique applied to a frame. So easy, simply paint, let dry in the sun, and wax.
Really what I learned the most from this workshop was to never underestimate the power of women. After being surrounded by women who own businesses and transform living spaces, I am ridiculously impressed with the artistry and work ethic we all share. These women get paint beneath their nails and talk about ways to better business; they aren't afraid to get messy or arent all about appearances, they see the beauty in the mess that is a worktable.
I want to thank Annette who is extraordinary, and is an example of what can be accomplished when doing what you love. I have to thank Anne for her generosity, care, and for passing so much of what she loves on to her daughter and infecting others with her spirit. And I cannot articulate my deepest thanks to Annie Sloan, who is so highly regarded in the art community, and is also so down to earth and real. Annie taught me a great deal about painting, but also about how one woman can become a brand, how one name can be associated with quality. I truly admire that, and hope that one day such an honor can be mine.
I also need to thank my fellow workshopmates, who were all so joyful and inspired me in their own ways. Thank you for reminding me that this is why we make magazines. The workshop ended with a toast and champagne. Any good workshop should have champagne. Cheers to you, ladies!

You Know It's Spring When ...

Nordstrom sends me their divine designer collection lookbook. Thank you Nordstrom! These are my favorites (from top to bottom):
Orange espedrilles from Dior, white ruffle dress from Nina Ricci, feathers & tweed (I'm really liking the feather embellishment on clothing, it makes everything so light) by Chanel, blue pumps from Christian Louboutin, '70s style one shoulder maxi dress by Marc Jacobs, orange maxi skirt a la Jil Sander, and bow ring from Lanvin.
I love all the color that is going to be popular this spring. I am definitely not afraid of wearing color galore! This issue noted that the tone of spring's collections was "optimistic." I really like that. Because after all, fashion is about optimism, it's about putting your best foot forward and re-inventing your style (or at least sprucing it up) every season.
What are you eyeing for spring?

Altered Couture Closet

I've been knee deep in playing catch up lately. What with a much needed vacation and battling a cold (gross) I am trying my best to get back on track. That's the thing about this industry, there are always deadlines, and as far ahead as you work, things can still sneak up on you.
I was doing some recruiting lately and realized how much I needed to reconnect with Altered. Sounds weird, right? But really this magazine is one I have had great fortune with and it is sort of my first love, in terms of editorial work.
I was looking at Etsy and noticed Rebecca's shop, www.rebeccasartcloset.etsy.com and remembered why I love this magazine. This is what it's all about. I am hoping to reconnect with Rebecca, as she has been featured in our pages before (ALT Summer 2009). Feeling inspired? I am still accepting submissions until 3/16/11. Feel free to comment or shoort me an email at blivesay@stampington.com. Feel like shopping? Head over to Rebecca's store and buy something utterly unique and special : )
